‘Insurgent’ debuts at number one on ‘New York Times’ hardcover bestseller list

Veronica Roth has announced today that Insurgent has debuted at number one on The New York Times’ Bestseller List for hardcover books.

She announced the news today on her Twitter page, writing:

“Just found out that Insurgent was #1 on the NYT hardcover list this week! And so was Divergent, on the paperback list! #flailsmadly #AHHH!”

Insurgent, the second installment to Veronica Roth’s Divergent Trilogy, was released on Tuesday, May 1st by HarperTeen.

The first book in the series, Divergent, also reached bestseller status in its debut week, coming in at sixth on the New York Times’ Bestseller List for Children’s Chapter Books.

Leading up to the release of Insurgent, Divergent returned to the Bestseller List and currently ranks number one in Children’s Chapter Books.

As editor Molly O’Neill wrote on Twitter:

#1 + #1 = NYT awesomeness squared! Thanks to the #DivergentNation & all readers & fans & booksellers & bookpushers of DIVERGENT & INSURGENT!

One more book remains in the series – an as-yet-untitled series ender, which Veronica Roth recently estimated to have a 2013 release date.
